Mary Beth Ferring

Mary Beth Ferring has lived in Dubuque for over 50 years. She came to Dubuque to attend Clarke College and has never left. While at Clarke she earned her BA in Music Education and Vocal Music. She went on to teach Elementary music for 41 years in several Holy Family Catholic Schools in Dubuque. Mary Beth is still active as a substitute teacher.

During her college years she met her husband Jim who was a student at Loras. They have been married 46 years and have two daughters, Jodi and Kristin, and 5 grandchildren. Together they own and operate Dubuque Bowling Lanes on Main Street in Dubuque.

An active member of the Dubuque Chorale for over 40 years, she has served as secretary on the Chorale Board and as the Chairperson for Education and Outreach where she has helped with the Dubuque Chorale Children’s Choirs for many years.

Mary Beth was the soprano soloist with the DSO when they performed Poulenc Gloria in the late 1980’s. She was also in the chorus of the production of Madame Butterfly in 2011 and has been involved in many Classical and Holiday concerts with the Dubuque Chorale and the Orchestra.

Outside of her musical interests she is the President of the Dubuque Morning Optimist Club and volunteers for many organizations that are involved with the youth of our community. She is active in her church and Chairperson of the Liturgy Committee. She enjoys bowling, playing golf, Jazzercize, the Cubs and traveling with her family.

Being part of Pursuit of the Podium offers her an opportunity to share how important the Dubuque Symphony Orchestra is to our community. Along with the variety of concerts she especially appreciates the Arts Trek program that offers concerts to the school children in our community exposing many of them to their first opportunity to see an orchestra perform. The adopt a musician program is also special as this brings a musician into the schools to meet students and explain what being a professional musician is like. Your support of her participation in this event will benefit these programs of the orchestra as well as the wonderful concerts played throughout the year. She would appreciate you supporting her in this fundraiser.
