Dubuque Symphony Orchestra League

Now in its’ 58th year, the Dubuque Symphony Orchestra League (DSOL) and its membership of dedicated volunteers has provided support for the financial and educational endeavors of the Dubuque Symphony Orchestra.

About the DSOL

The Dubuque Symphony Orchestra League (DSOL) has been an integral support group for the Dubuque Symphony Orchestra (DSO) since its inception in 1966. Consisting of dedicated volunteers, the DSOL focuses on both financial support and music education opportunities for the DSO. In our 58th year, the DSOL has contributed over $1,130,000 to the DSO. Additionally, its dedicated members have volunteered an impressive 231,094 hours, supporting various activities such as orchestra luncheons, guest artist gifts, fundraising activities, and event assistance.

Every year the League contributes support to the youth education programs in the community such as the 3rd and 5th grade Arts Trek concerts and the 4th grade Adopt-A-Musician programs. We also support the Dubuque Symphony Youth Orchestra by sponsoring the Concerto Competition and contributing to the Dubuque Symphony Youth Ensembles. The League sponsors other events that include Sound Bites luncheons held on the Friday prior to the Classics concerts, Musical Musing prior to the Sunday concerts, as well as the Senior Classics program, now in its 14th year. The Senior Classics program provides performances by DSO musicians and the Youth Orchestra to entertain residents and their families at local nursing homes and assisted living centers.

LUNCHEON AND AN AFTERNOON WITH LOUISA MAY ALCOTT

Saturday, November 23, 2024 at 1:00 p.m.
Dubuque Golf & Country Club

  • Following lunch the audience will experience a theatrical presentation from Historical Women of Letters, featuring Debra Ann Miller, as Louisa May Alcott, in costume. This performance, written using excerpts from her letters and journals, allows LMA to speak in her own words; of her childhood, her experiences as a Civil War Nurse, her struggles to support her family, and the equal rights of all. There will be a question and answer period following the performance. We trust you'll be inspired by Louisa's story. River Lights Bookstore has generously offered a bound copy of Little Women as a door prize and we thank them.

Reservations can be made with the DSO office at 563-557-1677. The cost is $40 per ticket. Checks, cash or credit card will secure your seat at the table.

Mail payment to: Dubuque Symphony Orchestra, 2728 Asbury Rd., Ste. 900, Dubuque, IA 52001.  If you are using a credit card, be advised there is an added handling fee of $3.00.
