The Dubuque Symphony Orchestra honors veterans with a special program Veteran’s Day weekend. Copland’s inspiring Fanfare for the Common Man, written during WWII in honor of our troops, begins our musical tribute, followed by Joan Tower’s exciting Fanfare for the Uncommon Woman.
The Dubuque Chorale is featured in two stirring selections about freedom and the costs of protecting it. Some DSO audiences will remember the last time we performed the beautiful and haunting “Hymn to the Fallen” with wordless chorus and orchestra: it will give you goosebumps.
Copland’s portrait of Abraham Lincoln includes not only stirring narration but also some of his most powerful and heartfelt music.
Duke Ellington’s jazzy suite from “The River” rounds out this All-American program.
