Stephen Reichelt is a Chicago area bassist and music educator.
He received his bachelors degree in Music Performance on double bass and graduated with honors from DePaul University. In addition to being principal double bass of the Dubuque Symphony Orchestra, Stephen is a section bassist in the Rockford Symphony Orchestra, Illinois Symphony Orchestra, and West Michigan Symphony. He also performs regularly with the Charleston Symphony (SC), Oistrakh Symphony of Chicago, and Northbrook Symphony.
He has performed with the Chicago Philharmonic, Chicago Sinfonietta, Northwest Indiana Symphony, New Philharmonic, Beloit Janesville Symphony, Peoria Symphony, Quad City Symphony, and been principal bass of the City Wide Symphony of Chicago and the Lake Forest Civic Orchestra.
As a trained jazz musician, Stephen plays with the Chicago based jazz/swing band Bopology and highly values improvisation in his other projects. He is also an accomplished electric bass player and an in-demand studio musician making numerous recordings in Chicago and Nashville including national television and radio appearances.
In addition to writing music for his original bands and projects, Stephen also has a background in composition and has released seven albums of solo double bass soundscapes on the Bandcamp platform.
Mr. Reichelt received his Illinois Music Educator License from North Eastern Illinois University in 2012 and maintains a thriving private studio. He is a frequent guest clinician in schools in the Chicagoland area and resident sectional coach of the Schaumburg Youth Orchestra. Stephen is proud to be part of the Dubuque Symphony's "Adopt a Musician" program.
