White

Assistant Principal (acting)

Double bassist Mike White is a native of Flossmoor, IL and currently resides in the Quad Cities.

Mike earned his Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Iowa where he was a student of Professor Volkan Orhon. Previously, he was a student of Dr. William Koehler at Illinois State University where he received his Bachelor of Music degree.

Dr. White is currently an Assistant Professor of Music at Augustana College where he teaches applied double bass, bass guitar, string methods, music theory, and other courses. Mike also holds teaching positions at St. Ambrose University, the Quad City Symphony Orchestra’s Private Lesson Program, and The Deanery School of Music. Previously, he served as a graduate teaching assistant at the University of Iowa and as a faculty member at Cornell College. He teaches private lessons on double bass, bass guitar, cello, and appears regularly in schools as a masterclass teacher and festival judge. From 2016 to 2019, Mike was a faculty member at the Upper-Midwest String and Chamber Music Festival.

Dr. White holds positions with the Dubuque Symphony Orchestra, WCF Symphony, and frequently performs with other professional ensembles including the Illinois Symphony, Quad City Symphony, Orchestra Iowa, Peoria Symphony, Sioux City Symphony, and the La Crosse Symphony. As a chamber musician, Mike has performed with the Palisades Ensemble, Rountree Ensemble, University of Northern Iowa Faculty Septet, and others. He has also performed at International Society of Double Bass conventions with the University of Iowa Double Bass Ensemble and the Bad Boyz of Double Bass.

In his free time, Mike enjoys reading, cooking, the occasional video game, and lounging with his cat, Melly.
