Matt
Williamson

Matt Williamson, a trombonist from Naperville, IL, serves as Principal Trombonist of the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic and Second Trombone of the Dubuque Symphony Orchestra. In addition to his current positions, Matt also performs as a substitute musician with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, New Mexico Philharmonic, Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra, and Des Moines Symphony Orchestra, among others. Matt serves as Adjunct Instructor of Low Brass at Monmouth College and maintains a small private studio. Recently, he was featured as a soloist in a performance of Viet Cuong’s “Howls and Hymns” with the Monmouth College Wind Ensemble.

Matt is currently pursuing a Doctorate of Musical Arts degree as a Teaching Assistant at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, studying with Dr. Jonathan Whitaker. He completed his Master of Music in Trombone Performance with Peter Ellefson at Indiana University in 2017. Prior to his graduate studies, he received a Bachelor of Music with highest distinction in Trombone Performance at IU as a student of M. Dee Stewart. Before college, Matt studied with Max Bonecutter, former bass trombonist of the Minnesota Orchestra and Metropolitan Opera.
